To curb the spread of the coronavirus cases, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 24 announced a nationwide lockdown, with strict punitive measures against those who defy the ‘stay at home’ order. He, however, assured that essential and medical services will be available to citizens.
As we enter Day 8 of the lockdown, we see many citizens violating the lockdown forcing law enforcement authorities to resort to harsh measures. With a strict lockdown in place, if there are so many problems, imagine what will happen the day the lockdown is lifted.
Following guidelines to remain at home, to observe social distancing and personal hygiene alone do not amount to a victory over the coronavirus pandemic. Citizens will need to be highly disciplined and how we behave as a society will make all the difference.
It would be catastrophic if crores of citizens run amok as soon as the lockdown is lifted.
