Everton game not about me, says United manager Moyes

(Reuters) - Manchester United manager David Moyes played down the significance of returning to his former club for the first time in Sunday's Premier League match against Everton. Moyes was in charge at Goodison Park for 11 years before joining United in July to take over from the retired Alex Ferguson. He has not enjoyed a successful start at Old Trafford, however, and United are languishing seventh in the table, nine points and two places below Everton with only a slim chance of finishing …

Small-scale World Cup protests continue in Brazil

By Andrew Downie SAO PAULO (Reuters) - Several hundred people marched through Brazil's biggest city on Tuesday in a peaceful protest that was the latest in a series of small demonstrations against the upcoming World Cup. Brazil will host the June 12-July 13 tournament for the first time since 1950 but there is unrest among locals who believe too much money has been spent on preparing for the global showpiece to the detriment of public services such as health, education and transport. …

New York, Aug. 20 (ANI): New York's biggest gun bust in history has led to seizure of 250 firearms and 19 arrests with the help of an undercover cop.

An unnamed New York City Police Department (NYPD) undercover detective had bought the weapons from two weapons deal runners, who brought the illegal arms to the city from the U.S. states of North and South Carolina while travelling on buses, over last year, New York Daily News reports.

According to the report, the firearms seized included military-grade weapons, such as a fully automatic MAC-11 pistol with a silencer as large as the gun, and two SKS, which is a semi-automatic Soviet-era rifle.

Two suspects in the illegal weapon dealing named as Earl Campbell and Walter Walker, were residents of South and North Carolina and had sold 90 and 116 guns respectively for around 80,000 dollars during several meetings with the undercover officer since last year, the report added.

Both Walker and Campbell had tapped a loose network of suppliers in the Carolinas, who were aware their guns would be sold illegally in New York, officials said.

Campbell was also caught on wiretap saying that he didn't want to bring guns to Brooklyn for fear of stop-and-frisk.

NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly has heaped praises on the unnamed undercover detective.

Mayor Bloomberg said: 'There is no doubt that the seizure of these guns has saved lives,' while crediting the city's stop-and-frisk laws for taking 8,000 guns off the street. (ANI)
