Yogi Adityanath’s Grand Diwali Celebrations in Ayodhya Tonight, Nearly 2 Lakh Diyas to Light up Saryu River Bank
New Delhi, Oct 18: Ayodhya, which mainly remains in news due to the decades-old contentious Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri mosque dispute, will attempt to register its name in record books with a grand Diwali celebrations tonight.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will be in Ayodhya along with all his top ministers to participate in Diwali celebrations. State Tourism Department is attempting to get Ayodhya’s name in record books with lighting of 1.75 lakh diyas (earthern lamps) on the banks of Saryu river.
“Ramayan is 10,000 years old and Ayodhya is an integral part of it. It was a developed city even back then and people continue to come here from all over. To connect with its illustrious past is a matter of pride for us. Ayodhya is a matter of faith for us and Ram is an idol,” Adityanath told Zee News recently.
CM Adityanath will also participate in an aarti on the riverfront in the evening. “We have organised a special event to showcase our culture to the world. Diwali is a big festival with which our heritage and culture is attached,” Adityanath said before heading to Ayodhya. (Also Read: Yogi Adityanath Says Awaiting ‘Positive’ SC Verdict On Ayodhya Issue)
The three-day event will also feature Ramlila performance apart from a 20-minute laser show.
With an aim to add to the grandeur of the event, the local administration has planned to take the lead actors of Ramlila- Ram and Sita – on to the stage by a helicopter. The helicopter will be decorated with flowers to resemble Pushpak Viman of Ramayan’s demon king Ravan.
According to the plans, prominent buildings along Saryu Ghat will be decorated and illuminated and the celebration will also be attended by the governor. (Also Read: Yogi Adityanath in Ayodhya: UP CM calls for Ram Mandir solution through dialogues)
Earlier in May, the Adityanath government had re-started popular Ramlila in Ayodhya at the Ayodhya Research Centre, after a hiatus of 17 months.
The practice of daily shows of the epic Ramlila in Ayodhya was started by the then Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav in May 2004 but it was stopped during Akhilesh Yadav’s regime after culture department refused to grant aid for the same.
