World Cup 2018: Belgium & England aim to end their campaigns on a high!

As the trumpets blare through the packed St. Petersburg stadium, England and Belgium will look to leave Russia with a fitting final performance to finish third in the World Cup.

The heart-broken Belgians roll into this tie, knowing that they were ever so close to their first ever final. Eden Hazard in his post-match interview laid praise on his fallen troops. They will now look to rise up to make their captain proud by orchestrating a victorious end to a campaign that promised so much.

Romelu Lukaku, surprisingly stifled against France, should feature in attack along with Hazard. But one might also see Roberto Martinez hand chances to the fringe players in this game.

Thomas Meunier is available after a suspension kept him out against Les Bleus. Expect the ilk of Moussa Dembele, Yannick Carrasco and Michi Batshuayi to play some part in the game.

It remains to be seen if Belgium carry the same vibrancy in attack that brought them this far, now that only third place is at stake.

England fans belted out a chorus of “Don’t look back in anger” after their semi-final exit versus Croatia and the Three Lions will want to give their fans every reason to be proud of their exploits by clinching the third spot.

Gareth Southgate will go into the game without Kieran Trippier, who sustained an injury after a tireless performance against Croatia. Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling will be expected to be leading the line though Marcus Rashford may as well get a look in for this game.

England might also decide to hand their squad players a chance to get a taste of the World Cup action.

The last time these two teams met, England came off worse by a goal in the group stages of the tournament. Possibly, Southgate's charges can exact revenge here.

This World Cup in Russia has thrown up lots and lots of surprises. Expect it to continue with an absolutely electric tie. Kick-off is at 10:00 PM Malaysia time.
