Polish politician Janusz Korwin-Mikke courted controversy when he said that women deserved to be paid less. He made the comments during a debate about the gender pay gap in the European Parliament.
He started by saying that no women were on the top 800 list of the Physics Olympiad in Poland, or in the list of the top 100 chess players in the world, and therefore, they did not deserve to earn as much as men.
Janusz Korwin-MikkeOf course, women must earn less than men because they are weaker, they are smaller, they are less intelligent, they must earn less, that’s all.
Responding to his remarks, Garcia Perez, Spanish MEP said: “According to what you're saying and your theory I wouldn't have the right to be here as a member of parliament.”
“I know you’re very upset and very concerned about the fact we women can represent citizens on an equal footing with you. I think I need to defend European women against men like you.”
In October 2015, the Polish politician was fined for using racist language at a debate. He was suspended for 10 days for making the Nazi-salute.
