Whatsapp privacy policy: Centre says obey the rules of the land; gives 7 days to respond to notice

Whatsapp's new privacy policy was set to roll out in India on 15th May, 2021. Every time users opened the messaging application, they were shown a message asking them to accept the new terms and conditions before the said date. However, amidst concerns expressed by various stakeholders, Whatsapp had earlier claimed that it is officially deferring the privacy policy beyond 15th May, 2021. In the latest developments, The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has directed Whatsapp to take back its new privacy policy. The Centre is saying that Whatsapp needs to respect the Indian users' choice of accepting or not accepting the policy. A notice has been issued by the government and the Facebook-owned company has been given 7 days to respond.
