Kolkata, Nov 18 (PTI) The West Bengal government hasconstituted a 'core committee' to chalk out a policy toeradicate child labour from the state, a senior official saidon Monday.
The Committee on Rights of the Child along withrepresentatives of the state government and other NGOs haveset up the core committee, he said.
The first meeting of the panel has already taken placelast week, said Prosun Bhowmik, member of the West BengalCommission for Protection of Child Rights.
'Kalimpong is reportedly child labour-free but anofficial announcement is yet to be made. There are places inNorth and South 24 Parganas where there is almost no childlabour,' Bhowmik said.
'We want to make the entire state free of this menaceand make it a model for the entire country,' he added. PTI SCHRBT RBT
