(Eds: Adds details) Kolkata, Sep 22 (PTI) At least 62 more people died due to COVID-19 in West Bengal on Tuesday, raising the death toll to 4,483, while 3,182 fresh cases pushed the tally in the state to 2,31,484, the health department said in its bulletin.
The discharge rate rose to 87.28 per cent, as 3,047 people recovered from the infection, taking the total number of people who have defeated the disease so far to 2,02,030.
Of the 62 fatalities, 12 were reported from North 24 Parganas, seven from Kolkata, six each from South 24 Parganas and Purba Medinipur, five from Howrah and four each from Hooghly and Paschim Medinipur.
Three deaths were recorded in Purba Bardhaman, two each in Nadia, Coochbehar and Alipurduar, and one each in Paschim Bardhaman, Bankura, Birbhum, Murshidabad, Malda, Dakshin Dinajpur, Uttar Dinajpur, Kalimpong and Darjeeling.
According to the health department, 51 of the 62 fatalities were due to the comorbidities, where COVID-19 was 'incidental'.
Kolkata accounted for 534 fresh COVID-19 cases, while neighbouring North 24 Parganas saw 527 people testing positive for the infection.
Bengal currently has 24,971 active coronavirus cases.
As many as 28,79,278 samples have been tested for COVID-19 in the state thus far, including 45,447 over the last 24 hours, the bulletin added. PTI SCH RMS RMS
