Five policeman and two civilians were killed when several terrorists attacked a van belonging to a bank in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district and peppered it with bullets. The attack comes just hours after two Indian Army jawans were killed in ceasefire violation by Pakistan in the Krishna Ghati (KG) sector in Poonch district.

The initial reports say that at least four policemen were injured when the terrorists attacked the cash delivery van of Jammu and Kashmir Bank. However, it later emerged that seven people died in the attack, and that the terrorists had made away with five self-loading rifles (SLRs) from the policemen guarding the van. They also looted the van before leaving.

It appears that several terrorists at first fired at the van. Then, they pulled out the policemen and the bank officials from inside the van and shot them dead outside. One other guard who was found at the spot has been rushed to hospital in critical condition.

That the terrorists looted the van means they now have new currency notes with which they can fund their activities. It may be remembered here that the demonetisation move by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had targeted, among other things, terror funding. The terorrists have also taken guns from the martyred policemen, which can how be used in more terror attacks.
