Virat Kohli is a man on a mission.
The Indian captain is bracing for what is certainly the greatest opportunity for his side to do something special, if not the biggest challenge faced by Kohli’s India in four years of his stint as Test captain.
All eyes are on Kohli as he returns to the land where he took his first steps as India’s 32nd Test captain – in a stellar individual display which saw him score a jaw-dropping 692 runs in four matches, laced with four hundreds.
Needless to say, everything he does is being closely monitored by the media and the opposition camp alike. Cricket Australia’s digital content team captured the 30-year-old in the nets two days ahead of the opening Test of the four-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy between Australia and India at Adelaide.
The signs, well, are ominous.
While the skipper himself would be the first to quash away any serious ‘takeaways’ from a practice session, how sweet was the sound of the ball coming off his blade!
The tweet elicited excited responses from across the world – from cricketers past and present to broadcasters, more than a few revelled at the sight (and sound).

Fans and followers, not restricted by national affiliations, expressed their own enjoyment too. Well, not quite enjoyment for all.
A video of a Batsman practicing his shots in nets has been trending since last couple of hrs. Can only happen if the man is Virat Kohli. That sound of the bat is really addictive !— Saurabh (@imsgshinde) December 4, 2018
Can we offer him citizenship?— Shmick (@_shmick) December 4, 2018
some of those drives were in the air. If we can just put a couple of fielders 10 rows back in the Bradman stand, he is in trouble!— Graeme Peddle (@PeddleGraeme) December 4, 2018
That look right at the end is one Indian fans are hoping to see on Australian bowlers through the four-Test summer Down Under. But regardless of whether that happens or not, all credit to the good people at cricket.com.au for putting this out for the world to admire!
