Want remaining elections in single phase, EC’s decision will expose people to COVID: TMC

Kolkata, Apr 16 (ANI): While addressing a press conference in Kolkata after Election Commission’s all party meeting, All India Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’Brien said that the party wanted EC to conduct the remaining elections in single phase so that people may not get exposed to coronavirus but EC’s decision will expose people to COVID-19. He also added that the decision will meet BJP’s prime objective, it will destroy more of Bengal and will kill more people from Bengal. He said, “Today the umpire said 7 pm to 10 am no campaigning, this is very suitable to those living in Lutyens bungalows in Delhi. They have breakfast in Delhi, fly down to Kolkata, do some meetings in heat and they will go back. This will expose people to COVID-19”. Election Commission, on April 16, curtailed the timing of the campaign up to 7 PM. “There shall not be any campaign between 7 PM and 10 AM on campaign day. Silence period extended from 48 hours to 72 hours in each of the remaining three phases in West Bengal”, said EC after all party meeting.
