Virat Kohli has got the best compliment from his international rival and Indian Premier League teammate AB de Villiers. The South African has said that the Indian captain is the best player in the world. The South African dasher was quoted to be saying by Cricinfo.com, “I don’t think I can be the best batsman. I don’t play all formats. He (Kohli) is definitely the best player in the world.”

But there is a reason why De Villiers feels Kohli is the best. He said, “He has got competition in quite a few players like Steve Smith, Kane Williamson, and there are a lot of players — with Quinton de Kock coming through — around the world. But I truly believe you can be the best player only if you play all formats in cricket. If you are in the top five in all three formats, that’s when you know you can really play the game.”

And that is the thing that has stood out about Kohli. Not long ago, he was averaging over 50 in all formats of the game. Currently, his Test match average is a shade under 50 while he still averages over 50 in the two other formats. Also check-I initially doubted Virat Kohli’s leadership skills, says AB de Villiers

It is not just the runs that Kohli scores, his strike rate in all formats is quite good. He is also the man who likes to play the big innings. While he has hit 16 centuries in Test match cricket, he has stroked 27 of them in his favourite format – ODI cricket.
