Viral Video: Gray whale swims under unsuspecting surfers at Doheny State Beach

Though the whale sneakily approached the surfers, it alerted them by spouting from its blowhole before vanishing from sight.

A rare moment was captured in California when a grey whale swam under a group of unsuspecting surfers on Monday. A video of the moment, which has now gone viral on several social media platforms, shows the gigantic mammal skillfully manoeuvring its way around the surfers while they wait for the waves at Doheny State Beach.

Payton Landaas, a student at the San Juan Hills High School, recently started a drone company and was checking the waves when he spotted the whale.

“I ran and got my drone and flew it out there,” he told the Orange County Register newspaper. “Then it ventured out to Doheny… it was just cruising. I lost it a couple of times, it dove down pretty deep,” he further said.
