Villagers in J&K's Udhampur trek kilometres to fetch water

Udhampur (J&K), July 06 (ANI): Even after 74 years of independence, turning on a tap to get clean water remains a distant dream for the residents of villages in tehsil Ramnagar of Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir. There seems to be no end to the drinking water crisis. It is only becoming worse with every passing day. Udhampur is still having only one hand pump for six villages. Villagers used to travel long distances to fetch water. Everyday women, kids, men are forced to stand in long queues to wait for their turn under the scorching heat.
