Pick up any of her video interviews, Vidya Balan comes across as a bubbly, cheerful person! It therefore came as a shocker when it was revealed that the actress has a lot of anger in her. You’d be surprised to know that her husband Siddharth Roy Kapur feels the same and believes that the Begum Jaan actress has a violent streak.
In a recent interview on a chat show, the actress citied this pent up anger as a reason why she chose to sign Begum Jaan! From her earlier interviews about the film, Vidya Balan has confessed that while working on the movie, that tells the story of the life, love and loss of sex workers, she had to hurl a lot of abuses. She said that the abuses were relevant since they stem from the frustration and hardships that these sex workers face in their daily life. For Vidya, abusing came easy since she was convinced about their importance in the film. And the fact that she has so much anger inside of her helped her do justice to her role of an angry young woman, who is a madam of a brothel.
During the chat show “Yaar Mera Superstar Season 2″ which will air on Zoom on Saturday, Vidya revealed the real motivation behind doing Begum Jaan. Vidya said: “I wanted to unleash that part of me and all it took was a conversation with Bhatt saab on a flight. We were promoting ‘Hamari Adhuri Kahani’ so, I told him that I wanted to give an expression to my anger, I have a lot of anger.” (ALSO READ: Begum Jaan song O Re Kaharo: Vidya Balan-Nasseruddin Shah present a heart wrenching tale of sex workers during the time of partition)
She also added that ‘Begum Jaan’ is a film where she got an opportunity to channel all that anger out of her system in a creative, positive way. However, it wasn’t as easy as it seems. She confessed, “To actually give vent to that kind of anger, aggression, wasn’t easy. But it was fun, once you break the limits, it was a lot of fun. It’s so freeing,” said the Begum Jaan actress who has the audience hooked to the film’s trailers. The film, a Hindi adaptation of Srijit Mukherji’s critically acclaimed Bengali film “Rajkahini”, tells the story of survival set against the backdrop of India’s partition in 1947. The film is set to release on April 14, 2017. (ALSO READ: Just like Kangana Ranaut, working with Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir Khan is not a priority for Vidya Balan)
