Watershed mission, an initiative taken by the Odisha government and funded by the centre, provided respite to the poor tribals of the Bolangir district of the state. The aim of the mission is to resolve the water shortage problem in the Maoist affected area. Bolangir district is also one of the poverty-stricken backward districts with more than 72 percent people below poverty line. Poor tribals are largely dependent on farming for their living. Therefore, to address their needs, Watershed Mission has taken several steps for conservation of water. The ground water level has been raised up by three to four feet along with water level of the ponds.
