Vijay Diwas, which marks the historic victory for India in the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War, was celebrated across the country with great fervor on Saturday. Army officers and jawans paid tribute to soldiers who lost their lives in the war. Speaking about the significance of this great day, Lt. Gen (Retd.) PS Mehta said this day is special because on this day, all three Indian forces-Para Troopers, Air Force and Ground Forces- freed Dhaka within 13 days. After 16 December 1971, a new country was born known as Bangladesh. Earlier today, Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman laid a wreath at Amar Jawan Jyoti.
