Venkaiah Naidu rejects opposition's impeachment motion against CJI

In a significant blow to the opposition, Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu has rejected its impeachment motion against Chief Justice Dipak Misra. According to reports, Naidu took the decision after consulting several experts. In his 10-page order, Mr. Naidu has dealt with every charged mentioned and claimed that the Opposition MPs were "unsure" of their own case and was based on "suspicion and conjectures." Earlier Congress had said that if the petition is rejected, it might move to the SC. The Congress is expected to react later in the afternoon at a press conference by former Law Minister Kapil Sibal and Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha who also heads the party's legal cell.
