Two villages in Thoothukudi forced to use contaminated water allegedly due to Sterlite Industry

After the violent nti Sterlite protests, two villages Kumareddyiyapura and Milavittan of Thoothukudi have come into limelight for being vocal against closing Sterlite Industry in the region. Locals say that they have been demanding closure of plant since many years alleging that they were getting contaminated water since the plant was started. The hand pumps in the villages are seen pumping out contaminated water, unfit for consumption. "I can't specifically comment on the quality of water. But, since it has been pointed to me about these two villages, we'll check the quality of water and ensure that the problem is solved", said Thoothukudi Collector Sandeep Nanduri.
