Shinde to decide on Afzal's mercy plea after winter session

Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde has said that the decision on the mercy petition of the parliament attack convict Afzal Guru will be taken after the conclusion of the winter session of the Parliament. Mohammed Afzal Guru, who was held guilty in the case, was awarded the death sentence by a Delhi court, after being convicted of conspiracy to attack parliament on December 13, 2001, waging war against the country and murder. The Delhi High Court upheld the death sentence and his appeal was rejected by the Supreme Court two years later. The 2001 parliament attack, led to the death of a dozen people, five terrorists, six policemen and a civilian.
