Rajapaksa to inaugurate Buddhist University, MDMK adamant on protest

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa who is on a three-day state visit to the country will today inaugurate a Buddist University at Sanchi in Madhya Pradesh amid looming threat of protest by Tamilian party MDMK. Earlier, on Thursday over 400 supporters of MDMK party leader 'Vaiko' Gopalaswamy were detained by local police in Bhopal. A visibly determined Vaiko supporter spoke to reporters over his outfit's opposition to Rajapaksa's visit. Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has appealed to MDMK leader 'Vaiko' Gopalaswamy to refrain from protesting ahead of Rajapaksa's scheduled visit. Speaking to reporters in Bhopal Chauhan said that Rajapaksa's visit is not political.
