Police seize 4 kg of banned drugs, two arrested

In a biggest ever drug seizure, the excise department sleuths arrested two men involved in drug smuggling in Kerala's Palakkad. The excise officials made the arrests during vehicle checking at Angamaly. The arrested are Faisal and Abdul Salam, both from Palakkad district of kerala. The department recovered 5kilogram of 3-4 methylenedioxy methamphetamine (MDMA), a party drug also known as Ecstasy, worth Rs 30 crore. The official in the Divisional Deputy Excise Commissioner said, the two who were coming from Palakkad, were allegedly attempting to smuggle the drug. They were taking the banned substance to the Cochin International Airport when the excise officers, based on a tipoff, intercepted their Maruti Suzuki Alto car and seized the contraband around 12 noon. The narcotic substance was found packed in two bags. This is the biggest ever drug seizure in the state since January when the Narcotics Control Bureau sleuths seized cocaine worth Rs 25 crore.
