Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan criticised the Odisha government of being "insensitive, corrupt and inhuman" over the farmer suicide in Bargarh district. Dharmendra Pradhan said that the farmer who killed himself would have been saved if the government would have provided proper water facilities to the farmers of the region. He added, "From the last three years there has been massive crop failure. The government lacks in its intension to provide proper facilities to the farmers. The government is insensitive, corrupt and inhuman which has increased people's anger toward government." The farmer allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison in Bargarh district on February 15, for not being able to pay a debt of lakh of rupees which he borrowed from private money lenders to marry his daughter.
