Now, Gujarat bans 'Padmavati', CM Rupani calls film 'foul play' with culture

After Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan banned the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati in his state, the government of Gujarat also issued a statement opposing the film's release. Taking to his Twitter handle, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani wrote, "Govt of Gujarat will not allow - a movie hurting sentiments of Rajputs - to get released in the State. We can't allow our history to be distorted. We believe in freedom of speech and expression but any foul play with our great culture is not tolerated." After months of silently dealing with a number of controversies and protests propagated by various fringe groups, the film earlier scheduled to release on December 1, has now been postponed.
