Mumbai blasts case: BJP opposes relief to Sanjay Dutt

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has opposed the demand for relief to Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt who was awarded a five-year jail sentence for being involved in the Mumbai blasts case by the Supreme Court. The demand for a pardon for Dutt in the case was sought by chairman of the press council of India, Markandey Katju and the demand was reiterated by his fans and the film fraternity. BJP Spokesperson Balbir Punj said in New Delhi that relief should not be given to Dutt, simply because he belongs to an affluent family, which is closely associated with the ruling Congress party.
