People celebrated festival of 'Magh Bihu' in Assam's Guwahati on January 15. This annual festival celebrates the commencement of harvesting season by the indigenous ethnic groups of Assam. 'Magh Bihu' coincides with 'Makar Sankranti'. Traditional cuisines were also prepared on this occasion. The word 'Bihu' has been derived from the Sanskrit word 'bishu' which means 'to ask for prosperity from Gods during the harvesting season'. Assamese people celebrate 'Magh Bihu' with great fervour and enthusiasm.
