Maoists beat woman to death in Jharkhand

Maoists hit nearly 6 persons with batons during a marriage ceremony in Gumla district of Jharkhand, after which a woman belonging to a local administrative body succumbed to her injuries, while police remained tight-lipped on the issue. Locals claimed that Maoists belonging to the People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) attacked them. Maoists have significantly increased their presence in tribal and rural regions in the states of Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha as well as certain parts of western Maharashtra and southern Andhra Pradesh. The left wing extremists say they are fighting for the rights of millions of poor and landless people however hundreds of these people lose their life in the violence, perpetrated by the rebels every year.
