Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, met union Home Minister Amit Shah and handed him an official letter mentioning genuine citizens being left out of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam. "I handed over a letter to him and told him of the 19 Lakh people left out of NRC, many are Hindi speaking, Bengali speaking and local Assamese. Many genuine voters have been left out. This should be looked into. I submitted an official letter," said Banerjee. The NRC final list was published on August 31. More than 19 lakh people in Assam were excluded from the final list.
