Police baton charged people protesting against the ban on Jallikattu in Avanivapuram in Madurai on Saturday. Thirty people have been detained. More details are awaited. It is held in Tamil Nadu as a part of Pongal (harvest) celebrations on Maatu Pongal day; the second day of the Tamil month.
