It is an established Hindu philosophy: Assam Health Minister on his 'cancer and sin' remark

After lighting controversy by stating that people who suffer from accidents and cancer are facing a divine justice because of the sins committed by them in their past lives, Assam Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday justified his statement by saying that human sufferings are linked to karmic deficiencies of past lives. While addressing the mediapersons, Sarma said that Hinduism believes in karmic law, and it is an established Hindu philosophy that that human sufferings are due to the sins committed by them or their families in their past lives.
