The Congress-JD(S) government failed the floor test in Karnataka Assembly where the ruling coalition got only 99 votes against 105 of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 224-member house. The floor test was conducted by Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar after almost a week of continuous delay and intervention by Supreme Court which, in an order today, felt optimistic of the floor test taking place. While addressing the media, Congress leader HK Patil said, "Congress-JD(S) failed trust vote. This defeat is because of betrayal of our party legislators, we have come under the influence of various things. People of Karnataka will not tolerate this type of betrayal to the Party."
