A 12-year-old boy from Gujarat's Surat has set out to become a monk on Thursday and renounced his family. Dressed in traditional finery, Bhavya Shah, son of a diamond merchant Dipesh Shah, reached his initiation ceremony in a convoy of decked up vehicles and horse carts. He left with a tonsured head and simple white cloth wrapped around his body, with a stick in hand. Jain monks presided over the ceremony which was attended by hundreds. People jostled to get a glimpse of the new monk. "I would like to give everyone the message that this is the true path and they should adopt this only", Bhavya said. He has followed in the footsteps of his sister who took to monkhood four years ago, when she was also 12 years old.
