Vardhan calls upon NGOs to help take science from laboratoryto public domain Kolkata, Nov 7 (PTI) Union Science and Technologyminister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Thursday called upon NGOs to comeout and help take science from the laboratory to the publicdomain.
Addressing a session on National Social Organisationsand Institutions during the 5th India International ScienceFestival (IISF) here, he said India is at the forefront oftechnologies today.
The minister underlined the pivotal role NGOs can playto build a scientific temperament in the country.
The four-day annual science festival is beingorganized in Kolkata from November 5 to November 8.
Participating in the National Startup Conclave andExpo, Vardhan encouraged the brimming young minds to takeadvantage of the Governments Startup India-Standup Indiaprogrammes.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has firm beliefthat the youth of this country will avail of the benefits ofthe twin schemes to launch new ventures and participate in thedevelopment of the country.
Later addressing the Assistive Technologies Conclaveand Expo for Divyanjan, Vardhan said the differently-abledpeople can stand shoulder to shoulder with others.
He asked delegates to focus their research on newtechnologies that can help overcome various physicaldisabilities.
The minister also interacted with a gathering of thedifferently-abled people attending the conclave. He alsoshowed a keen interest in the various scientific models andexhibits displayed at the Vigyan Samagam.
While attending an attempt by school children atcreating a new Guinness World Record, Vardhan lauded them fortheir keenness in science activities. In the event 480students participated; out of them 268 students assembledradio kit simultaneously, thus achieving the Guinness Recordfor the most students assembling radio kit simultaneously.
The Union Science and Technology minister said the dayincidentally also marks Cancer Awareness Day launched by himin 2014 and the Infant Protection Day, relevant to the IISFand the city hosting the Mega Science Fair. PTI SUSRG RG
