US President Donald Trump’s administration seems to have reached a new low after a Republican politician, while defending an anti-abortion bill, claimed that incest and rape could be part of God’s will.
He also said that “God can bring beauty from ashes” while referring to pregnancies resulting from these “acts of sin”.
Oklahoma State Representative George Faught’s bill prohibits an abortion on an unborn child “solely because of a diagnose of either Down Syndrome or a genetic abnormality”.
Any violation would lead to suspension of a physician’s license and a hefty fine will also be imposed.
While debating the bill in the Oklahoma House of Representatives last week, Democrat Cory Williams asked if “rape is the will of God”.
Faught responded with:
If you read the Bible, there’s actually a couple circumstances where that happened and the Lord uses all circumstances. I mean, you can go down that path, but it’s a reality, unfortunately.
Offering “divine intervention” as the reason behind not making an exception for abortion in cases of rape and incest made Williams question Faught again if he believes such acts are “actually the will of God”.
“You know, it’s a great question to ask. And obviously if it happens in someone’s life, it may not be the best thing that ever happened. So you’re saying that God is not sovereign with every activity that happens in someone’s life and can’t use anything and everything in someone’s life, and I disagree with that,” the lawmaker replied.
