COVID-19: Global Death Toll Crosses 1 Lakh, India Cases at 6,761

The global death toll due to coronavirus has crossed 1,00,000, AFP reported. As per the Johns Hopkins tracker, the total number of deaths reported across the globe is 1,00, 376.

India on Friday, 10 April reported 896 cases in 24 hours, the sharpest one day increase, raising the total number of COVID-19 cases to 6,761, with the death toll standing at 206. According to the latest health ministry data, there are 6,039 active cases and as many as 516 patients have been cured or discharged.

Punjab on Friday, became the second state after Odisha, to extend the ongoing 21-day nationwide lockdown by another fortnight till 1 May, reported ANI.

Earlier, Assam recorded its first COVID-19 death as a patient at Silchar Medical College Hospital passed away, PTI reported, quoting CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.

As per the Johns Hopkins tracker, the total number of deaths reported across the globe is 1,00, 376.

Delhi Containment Zones Increased to 30

The Delhi Government on Friday announced more containment zones in the capital to contain the spread of COVID-19. Nabi Karim, E pocket GTB enclave, street no 18 to 22 of Zakir Nagar & nearby area of Abu Bakar Masjid, Zakir Nagar are some areas which have been added as containment zones, reported ANI.

98 More Test Positive in Rajasthan

Ninety eight more people tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, raising the total number of cases in the state to 561. Fifty three of the latest cases were reported in Jaipur, reported ANI, quoting the state health department.

183 More Test Positive in Delhi

Hundred and eighty three more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Delhi, raising the total number of cases in the capital to 903. 154 of the latests cases are liked to the Tablighi events in Nizamuddin.

70 More Test Positive in Gujarat

Seventy more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Gujarat on Friday, raising the total number of cases in the state to 378, including 33 discharge and 19 discharges, reported ANI, quoting the state health department.

One More Tests Positive in Tripura

A 32-year-old resident of Madhya Pradesh has tested positive for COVID-19 in Tripura, raising the total number of cases in the state to 2. The patient is currently staying at Damcherra and had travelled along with the first positive patient in the state, reported ANI, quoting Biplab Kumar Deb, Chief Minister.

6 Held for Violating Lockdown in Dharavi

The Dharavi police on Friday arrested six residents in the area after they gathered at a local church to offer Good Friday prayers. They were charged for violating the terms of the lockdown and subsequently released on bail.

One More Tests Positive in Chandigarh

A 40-year-old resident of Chandigarh, who was admitted at GMSH Sector 16, has tested positive for COVID-19, raising the total number of cases in the city to 19, reported ANI, quoting the Chandigarh Health Department.

Gurgaon Makes Wearing Masks Compulsory

Gurgaon authorities on Friday announced that wearing a mask which covers the nose and mouth has been made compulsory when going out and while interacting with others. Any person in violation of the law will be punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, reported ANI.

Two hundred and eighteen people tested positive for COVID-19 in Mumbai on Friday, raising the total number of cases in the city to 993, reported ANI, quoting the Bombay Municipal Corporation.

Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh on Friday proposed to the central government a Rs 550 crore project for setting up an ‘Advanced Centre for Virology’ in the state, with land to be offered by his government free of cost, reported ANI, quoting the Chief Minsters office.

The CM wrote to Prime Minster Narendra Modi requesting him to direct Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to set up the proposed centre, which would focus on addressing regional, national and global needs in virology, diagnostics, research and therapeutic evaluations to cope with COVID-19 pandemic.
