The quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League 2018-19 ended with a lot of drama and emotions with some close ties on the one hand and some relatively plane contests on the other. Liverpool, Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur and Ajax are the four semi-finalists of the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League. What is interesting is that after a wait of several years, we have two English clubs in the semis with Liverpool gunning for a second straight final. Spurs were on the brink of elimination in the group stage and to make to the last four is a massive achievement for Mauricio Pochettino and his men. Ajax are doing wonders with their giant-killing act while Barcelona have finally found a way past the dreaded quarter-finals for them. Let us have a quick look at the schedule of the UEFA Champions League semi-final. UEFA Champions League 2019 Semi-Final 1 Leg 1 - Tottenham Hotspur vs Ajax ( 01/05/2019 – 12:30 AM IST)
Tottenham Hotspur were involved in a dramatic victory over Manchester City, but at home, they kept the English Champions quite. The key to this shutting of the shop was an industrious midfield involving Moussa Sissoko. The Frenchman, unfortunately, is out for the contest along with skipper Harry Kane, so Spurs will find it very difficult to get a positive result against a technically superior Ajax team.
UEFA Champions League 2019 Semi-Final 1 Leg 2 - Ajax vs Tottenham Hotspur ( 09/05/2019 – 12:30 AM IST)
There is a firm belief amongst Ajax supporters as well as football experts that the game may very well be decided in the first leg in London itself. But as we have seen in the past with Spurs, they always find a way to come back so we cannot count them out.
UEFA Champions League 2019 Semi-Final 2 Leg 1 - Barcelona vs Liverpool ( 02/05/2019 – 12:30 AM IST)
The first leg of this massive contest between Barcelona and Liverpool will be played in the Camp Nou where Barcelona does not know losing. It is going to be a massive game with the contest we have been waiting for – Virgil Van Dijk defending against Lionel Messi. While Barcelona are capable of producing the fireworks, they are an error-prone team which Liverpool with their forward line can capitalise on.
UEFA Champions League 2019 Semi-Final 2 Leg 2 - Liverpool vs Barcelona ( 08/05/2019 – 12:30 AM IST)
Liverpool attacking from the Kop end at Anfield is a sight no opposition wants to see, and like Barcelona, the Reds are equally adept to not losing at home. It will depend on how Liverpool have performed in the first leg for Jurgen Klopp to decide on his strategy. Ideally, the Reds will not want to be picked on the counter so they may avoid an open game inviting the wrath of Ousmane Dembele and Lionel Messi.
Four wonderful games for the fans to feast upon that should showcase some of the best footballing talents at home. Liverpool and Ajax just might edge out their opponents to play the final in Madrid.
