Indian content is going places, and is being recognised the world over. This time around, The International Emmys 2020 has announced its list of nominees, and Netflix’s show Delhi Crime, Prime’s Four More Shots Please, and actor Arjun Mathur (of Made in Heaven fame) are a part of the list.
Delhi Crime has earned a nomination for the Best Drama Series, while Four More Shots Please is nominated for the Best Comedy Series award. The former, which starred veteran actor Shefali Shah, was based on the brutal Nirbhaya gang rape in 2012. The seven-episodes-long series follows the investigation into the case led by DCP Vartika Chaturvedi (Shah) and the capture of all five accused men. (Shah’s role was inspired by Chhaya Sharma IPS, who was DCP South Delhi at the time.)
Delhi Crime is competing against Charité 2- Season 2 (Germany), Criminal UK (United Kingdom) and El Jardín de Bronce (The Bronze Garden) – Season 2, from Argentina.
Four More Shots Please, Directed by Anu Menon and Nupur Asthana & produced by Pritish Nandy, revolves around the lives of four women in Mumbai, who support each other through the ups and downs of their lives. This show is pitched against UK’s Back to Life, Fifty (Israel) and Brazil’s Ninguém tá Olhando (Nobody’s Looking). The star cast of the show includes actors Sayani Gupta, Kirti Kulhari, Bani J, and Maanvi Gagroo.
Actor Arjun Mathur, who played a homosexual character in Made in Heaven is a nominee in the Best Actor category. The show also featured Sobhita Dhulipala, Jim Sarbh, and Kalki Koechlin in important roles. Written by Zoya Akhtar, Reema Kagti and Alankrita Shrivastava, Made in Heaven was widely appreciated by audience and critics alike.
Last year, too, India had received several nominations at the International Emmys. Radhika Apte had bagged the Best Actress nomination for her performance in Lust Stories. The anthology had also received an Emmys nomination in the TV Movie/Mini Series category, and Sacred Games was nominated in the Best Drama category.
