Two caught while planning robbery

New Delhi, Nov 14 (PTI) Two men who were planning to commit a robbery were arrested from Rohini area in the national capital, police said on Saturday.

The accused have been identified as Rahul Kumar (27) and Sumit (24), both residents of Prem Nagar, they said.

According to police, the arrests were made on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, when constable Baboo Ram and Delhi Home Guard constable Porimol K Rai were on patrolling duty in Prem Nagar area.

Around 4.30 am, when they reached a street near Budh Bazar Road, they saw four people shouting at each other. When Ram started frisking them, they scuffled with the security personnel, a senior police officer said.

'Ram caught Kumar, following which his associate Mehereban took out a country-made pistol to threaten him. Meanwhile, Kumar managed to free himself from Ram and fired at him. Fortunately, the constable escaped unhurt,' Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) P K Mishra said.

Ram shot at Kumar's leg while the other three managed to escape from the spot. Later, Sumit was also nabbed on the instance of Kumar, the DCP said.

During interrogation, Kumar and Sumit disclosed that they, along with their absconding associates, were planning to commit a robbery in Sultan Puri or Mangolpuri, Mishra said. PTI NIT CK
