Swara Bhasker is one of those rare actors from the Hindi film industry who dares to speak her mind and raise her voice on issues that bother her. Bhasker’s open letter to filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali being a case in point. More recently, Bhasker was among the many actors who protested against the Kathua rape case on social media.

While the right wing mob on social media called for a boycott of all the actors who had protested against the Kathua rape case because it was ostensibly “anti-Hindu” and “anti-national”, Bhasker prominently came under the line of their fire after Amazon India responded to a promotional tweet by the actor.
Soon after this tweet, #BoycottAmazon and #UninstallAmazon began trending on Twitter as the right wing lobby began to threaten Amazon India via tweets like this:
Ask @JeffBezos why is marketing team at @amazonIN knowingly razing Amazon's brand, in India, to ground by associating itself with hinduphobic @ReallySwara ?— Insanely Sane (@Sanity_3) April 19, 2018
If team at @amazonIN is so insensitive to Hindu sentiments, then let there be #BoycottAmazon
Amazon India, surprisingly was quick to surrender to the trolling and deleted their response to Swara Bhasker - which was immediately claimed as a sign of “victory” by the trolls.
However, the story didn’t end there. Amazon India’s act of deleting the tweet was obviously seen as act of pandering to a “pro-rapist” group by others.
Hello @AmazonIN if you drop @ReallySwara over rape apologists bullying her for taking a stand over a rape that is being justified by the state, I don't see a reason why I should be loyal to you either. Frankly, I find the idea of shopping with you repulsive.— Vidyut #DestroyTheAadhaar (@Vidyut) April 21, 2018
Those asking for boycott of Amazon for their association with Swara @ReallySwara are supporting Child rape and murder.— Tushar (@TusharG) April 22, 2018
If Amazon drops @ReallySwara— Sabina Basha (@SabinaBasha) April 21, 2018
& bows to rape apologists, it drops me as a customer. Will not stand by those who stand by paedophile rapists & murderers. Do the right thing, @amazonIN . https://t.co/YaUkKh8VNp
Dear @amazonIN, Just gave you 5 rating. Don't get bothered by these 'bhakts' screaming #BoycottAmazon. @ReallySwara good work. #IsupportSwara #iSupportAmazon #BoycottBhakts #SupportFreeSpeech #FreeSpeech #FreeIndia— Christopher Whyte (@chris_whyte8) April 22, 2018
Amazon India has been silent over their deletion of Swara Bhasker’s tweet so far. The Quint has requested team Amazon for a statement on the controversy and will update this story if and when it comes in. We have also reached out to Bhasker to for a reaction but there has been no response from the actor so far.
