Train carrying 2.5 million litres of water reaches Chennai

In order to supply water to Chennai, the first 50-wagon train carrying water arrived at the parched city. The train left from Jolarpet railway station carrying 2.5 million litres of water. A second train will also carry more water to the city as the Chennai Metro Water has set a target of ferrying 10 million litres a day. Southern Railways will charge Chennai Metro Water Rs.7.5 lakh for each trip. The Tamil Nadu government has allotted Rs. 65 crore for this project.
