Urjit Patel

55 year old Urjit Patel who took over as the 24th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India on September 5, 2016, had the shortest tenure as RBI chief since the year 1992. At first he acted with maturity by not resigning in the wake of the central bank’s spat with the government. During the RBI-Centre standoff in recent months, Urjit Patel had also come under fire for his style of functioning, stubbornness and sometimes lack of communication, but he didn’t cave in. However, on 10th December, 2018 Urjit Patel resigned as RBI chief citing personal reasons. Former economic affairs secretary Shaktikanta Das has been appointed as the new RBI Governor.
