In order to cool your body and prevent a heat stroke in the summer, you need refreshing drinks that soothe your soul. These summer drinks not just cool you down but also make up for the lost minerals as you sweat. We have for you, recipes of five summer drinks shared by Chef Sharique Baux of Restaurant 29, Mumbai. Shikanji Recipe

This cooling drink is perfect for summers as it is refreshing with the goodness of lemons and Indian spices. Here’s how to make shikanji at home.

Ingredients:

3 to 4 tbsp of lemon juice

2 tbsp of sugar

¼ tsp of black Salt

Salt to taste

½ tsp of roasted cumin powder

2 ½ cup of chilled water

6 pcs of mint chopped

Method:

First, dissolve sugar in water in a bowl.

Then add lemon juice and all the ingredients together and adjust the seasoning.

Next, pour in a glass adding 2 to 3 ice cubes in each.

Serve chilled.

Punjabi Lassi Recipe

The yummy Punjabi lassi can be easily made at home and you can drink it in the afternoon to soothe your body. Here’s how to make Punjabi lassi. (ALSO SEE How to make mango raspberry smoothie)

Ingredients:

1½ cup yogurt

4-5 tbsp sugar

2-3 saffron strands (kesar)

2-3 cardamoms powdered/crushed

Ice cubes

2 glasses of chilled water

Method:

In a blender, add yogurt.

Into it add sugar, saffron strands and powdered cardamom.

Add ice cubes add chilled water.

Blend the mixture well.

Take glasses add ice cubes and pour in the blended lassi.

Garnish with crushed dry fruits.

Serve chilled.

Masala Chhaas Recipe

A drink that not just cools you down but also helps in digestion, masala chhaas is perfect for the heat. Here’s how to make it at home.

Ingredients:

1 cup yogurt

½ cup to 1 cup water or as required

1 tsp roasted cumin seed

1-2 green chilies chopped finely

1 tbsp ginger chopped finely or grated ginger

¼th cup coriander leaves chopped finely

10-12 mint leaves chopped finely

1 tsp chat masala

Black salt or salt as required

Method:

Combine roasted cumin, ginger, chilli, coriander leaves and mint leaves in the grinder.

Grind for 30 seconds then add yogurt, water, ice cubes, black salt and chat masala. Grind again until all is combined well.

Pour into glasses or in earthen ware.

Garnish with coriander leaves and mint leaves.

Serve masala chhaas chilled.

Shahtoot ka Ras Recipe

Mulberries are packed with antioxidants and should be consumed in abundance. Here’s how you can make its juice at home and turn it into a summer drink. (ALSO SEE How to make kairi ka panna at home)

Ingredients:

60 ml mulberry juice

20 ml fresh pineapple juice

20 ml fresh apple juice

2-3 pieces ice cubess

90 ml soda

A pinch of black salt /salt

2-3 drops of lemon juice

Method:

Mix all the juices together.

Top up with soda adding black salt, lemon juice and ice.

Serve chilled.

Karam Saag ka Ras Recipe

Kale is touted as a superfood in the West and is packed with nutrients. If you do not like eating it so much, drink up by making this juice at home. Here is the recipe.

Ingredients:

60 ml kale juice

20 ml pineapple juice

20 ml apple juice

30 ml cucumber juice

A pinch of dry ginger powder

10 ml mint juice

½ pcs lemon juice

Few strands of orange rind

Method:

Mix all the juices mentioned above in a glass.

Add ginger powder, lemon juice and top it with chilled water.

Garnish with few orange rinds.
