Bollywood films started with a bang this year creating huge impact at the overseas market but the Corona Virus scare engulfed more than 50% of the profit for Bollywood films during the first quarter. Let us check out which Bollywood films released in 2020 was the highest grossing film of 2020.
Bollywood films have started shining not just at the domestic market but also at the Overseas market as it is reaching out to the wider audience who are appreciating the films. With more screen counts, more awareness from social media, quality produced films are doing good business at the box office. This year, the star of the show was definitely the Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan and Kajol starrer Tanhaji-The Unsung Warrior, which not only crossed the milestone in India but also became the highest grossing film of Ajay Devn in the Overseas market.
Thanks to solid promotion, astounding trailer and popularity of Tiger Shroff, Shraddha Kapoor and the Baaghi franchise, Baaghi 3 became the best opening weekend film of 2020 beating Ajay Devgn’s Tanhaji in both domestic and overseas market. Unfortunately, due to Corona Virus scare globally, cinema halls started shutting down. Though Baaghi 3 was a big hit in the Gulf region but could go further after that.
Ayushmann Khurrana did what he is best at – solid content, enduring performances and economical budget, which makes everyone happy. Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhaan was able to cross the 60 crore milestone against a budget of Rs 50 crore but was an average fare at the Overseas market. Another film which made good money was Aditya Roy Kapur, Disha Patani, Kunal Khemu and Anil Kapoor, Malang. Like Baaghi 3, Malang was a big hit in Gulf region.
Varun Dhawan scored his second disappointment at the box office with Street Dancer 3D after giving a disaster called Kalank last year. Though Street Dancer got the second highest opening figure of 2020 at the domestic market, the dance-drama did decent business in the international circuit. The film also starred Shraddha Kapoor and Prabhu Deva in key role.
Imtiaz Ali is known as a maestro in making romantic films and the director succeeds with each and every film he makes, whether it is Socha Na Tha, Jab We Met, Love Aaj Kal, Rockstar, Highway or Tamasha. Unfortunately, he disappointed with much expected Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan starrer Love Aaj Kal (2020). The romantic drama ran out of steam not just in the domestic market but also suffered at the Overseas market.
