Aamir Khan had recently announced that he will step into Tom Hanks’ shoes for the remake of the iconic Forrest Gump. The Indian version will be titled Laal Singh Chadda. Naturally, the news lead to polarising reactions. Should such a widely-loved film be left untouched? But then again Aamir is known to deliver quality, so it would be interesting to see his take on the film. Aamir has shown has range as an actor over the years, from playing a college student in 3 Idiots to an ageing wrestler in Dangal to an alien in PK. A film like Forrest Gump will only benefit from a range like that.
On Tom Hanks’ birthday, we list some iconic scenes from the film that Aamir would excel at.
1. Life Is Like a Box of Chocolates
One of the most iconic scenes of the film is where the innocent Forrest(Tom Hanks)engages in a conversation with a random stranger, offering her some chocolates. He then proceeds to say “My mama always said, life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.” Aamir can effortlessly play a naive guy, a glimpse of which we saw in PK. This is a scene he could definitely nail.
2. I Think I’ll Go Home Now
Running is one of the major themes of the Forrest Gump movie and Gump states in the film that he one day he just started running for no reason really. He ran for a period of about three years and two months. He soon amasses a bunch of people running behind him and at one point just stops and says, “I’m going home.” There’s no great revelation, nothing earth-shattering, just a simple decision.
3. Is He Smart?
One of the most heartbreaking scenes of the film is when Forrest Gump realises he has a son. He’s overwhelmed at the idea that he has a child and asks innocently, “Is he smart?” Forrest is a character who doesn’t express much, he’s not someone who can exclaim at something. His reactions are therefore quite matter of fact and Tom Hanks brings that out beautifully. You can see how moved Forrest is but can't express it. We are sure Aamir would be able to do that too.
