Shanmuga Priya eloped and married making her family unhappy about her inter-caste marriage.

It has been more than two-and-a-half years since K Gladson went missing from Kanyakumari, and his wife Shanmuga Priya alleges that her uncle is responsible for his disappearance.

Gladson (25), a Christian and Shanmuga Priya (24), a Hindu got married on August 4, 2014. Shanmuga Priya belongs to the Kollar community and Gladson comes from the Nadar community. They met in school and fell in love in Class 10. In 2014, they eloped and got married. Shanmuga Priya’s family was unhappy with the marriage.

"After I got married, my family and relatives were very unhappy because he is from a different caste and religion,” Shanmuga Priya said.

The last time Shanmuga Priya saw her husband was when they were invited by her aunt, her father’s sister, to their house.

“On December 10, my uncle Rajan, who is my father’s brother, came to pick us up from our house. The next day, he took my husband with him saying he was going to the Marthandam railway station and from there, he will be going to Thiruvanthapuram to catch a flight,” she said.

When her husband didn’t return, Shanmuga Priya asked her uncle about him  “He told me that he might have left for Kerala for a job. Why would be leave for a job without taking any of his clothes or things?” she asks.

An FIR was registered on May 22, 2015 at Thucklay police station in Kanyakumari district. Godwin, Gladson’s brother says that the police did not investigate the case properly. “They never tried to find my brother. We were the ones who were giving them information about Rajan. We only told them that Rajan was in Qatar,” Godwin said.

Shanmuga Priya believes that her uncle kidnapped her husband. “I just want the police to arrest my uncle and find what happened to my husband,” she said.

She has filed a habeas corpus petition in the court. Shanmuga Priya’s lawyer, Muthukumar told The News Minute, “The court questioned the police about the case. Then the case was transferred to the Superintendent of Police. Police also came to the conclusion that he was last seen with Rajan, who will know about his whereabout. The SP has contacted the immigration office in Madurai. The court has asked the SP to take action to bring Rajan back to India. The petition has been closed in the court.”

The lawyer added that Rajan has been involved in another criminal case in the past. His wife self-immolated herself in 2009 and her parents had complained saying that he had harassed her for dowry.
