Chennai,Mar 15 (PTI) The surge in COVID-19 cases continued in Tamil Nadu, with the state logging 836 fresh infections, including a returnee from Armenia, taking the caseload to 8.60 lakh, while four more fatalties too the toll to 12,551.
The state has been reporting an increase in cases since March 5, with recoveries being on the lower side as against the earlier trend of outnumbering fresh infections.
On Monday too, the number was lesser with 553 people getting discharged, taking the cumulative number to 8,42,862, leaving 5,149 active cases, a health department bulletin said.
Currently, the number of active cases in the state stands at 5,149.
Chennai accounted for most of the new infections with 317 cases being reported, aggregating 2,39,131 till date.
The metropolis also leads in the number of fatalities with 4,179.
Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai and Nagapattinam reported one death each all due to pre-existing comorbidities, the bulletin said.
Next to Chennai, Chengalpattu recorded 81 new infections, followed by Coimbatore with 70 and Thanjavur with 58 cases, while the remaining cases were scattered over other districts.
