Chennai, July 9 (PTI): Tamil Nadu on Friday reported 69 deaths and 3,039 new COVID-19 cases, which include that of a returnee from West Bengal.
With this, the total infected and the fatalities so far rose to 25,13,098 and 33,322 respectively, the Health Department said.
As many as 3,411 people got discharged during the day, aggregating to 24,46,552 leaving 33,224 active infections, a bulletin said.
In regard to the highest daily infection, the State reported 36,184 cases on May 21 and the number has since been declining.
On May 30, the daily cases dropped below 30,000; on June 7 they were below 20,000; and on June 17, they were less than 10,000.
As many as 29 districts of the total 38 in the State reported new infections in double digits while there were no fresh deaths in nine of the districts, the bulletin said.
Chennai, the State capital, added 180 new infections aggregating to 5,34,557 till date and fatalities were 8,252.
The testing of RT-PCR samples stood at 1,51,631 in the last 24 hours, pushing the cumulative number of specimens examined so far to 3,42,47,698.
Among the 69 who died today, 51 were in government hospitals and the rest in private ones Nine of the deceased were those who had no co- morbidity or pre-existing illness.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Medical and Family Welfare Ma Subramanian told reporters in Sivaganga that the State government has directed the officials concerned to monitor the temperature and oxygen-level of people who arrive from Kerala where Zika virus has been reported.
