TN records 673 new COVID-19 cases, testing of RT-PCR samples cross 1.50 crore

Chennai, Jan 13 (PTI): Tamil Nadu on Wednesday reported 673 new COVID-19 infections, pushing the tally to 8,28,287, while the toll mounted to 12,242 with 6 more fatalities.

Recoveries continued to outnumber the new cases with 821 people getting discharged, totalling to 8,09,392, a health department bulletin said.

The number of active cases stood at 6,653.

The testing of RT-PCR samples crossed the 1.50 crore mark on Wednesday, with 62,683 samples tested in the last 24 hours aggregating to 1,50,08,259 specimens examined.

Tamil Nadu does not use Rapid Antigen Diagnostic Tests (RADT) and all tests are RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction) based.

Of the fresh cases, the State capital logged 192 new infections, while the rest was spread across other districts.

Chennai continued to top the list of the cases with 2,28,368 infections of more than 8.28 lakh reported.It also topped in the number of fatalities, accounting for 4,054 of the total death toll in the state.

As many as 19 districts added new cases in single digits, while 32 districts reported 'nil' deaths in the last 24 hours.

Perambalur reported zero fresh cases and there was only one active case in the district.

Six people who tested positive were returnees from various destinations, the bulletin said.PTI VIJ BN WELCOME BN WELCOME
