TN clocks 761 new COVID-19 cases, 7 fatalities

Chennai, Jan 9 (PTI): Tamil Nadu on Saturday recorded 761 new COVID-19 infections, pushing the tally to 8,25,537, while the toll mounted to 12,215 with 7 more fatalities.

Recoveries eclipsed the new cases with 882 people getting discharged, totalling to 8,06,018 so far, a bulletin said.

The number of active cases stood at 7,304.

As many as 65,513 samples were tested on Saturday, taking the cumulative total to 1,47,60,619 specimens examined.

Of the 761 cases reported in Tamil Nadu, the State capital logged 218 new infections while the rest was scattered across other districts.

Chennai continued to top the list of the cases with 2,27,575 infections of more than 8.25 lakh reported in Tamil Nadu.

It also topped in the number of fatalities, accounting for 4,044 of the total death toll reported in the state.

Nineteen districts added new cases in single digits while five districts have reported zero deaths in the last 24 hours.

Perambalur and Ramanathapuram recorded 'zero' fresh COVID-19 cases today.However, active cases in the districts remained at two and 82, respectively.

Four individuals who tested positive were returnees from other States.

Two private laboratories, one each in Karur and Salem, received approval for taking up COVID-19 testing, taking the total number of facilities operating in the state to 247 of which 68 are run by government, the bulletin said.PTI VIJ BN WELCOME BN WELCOME
