TMC MP Mimi Chakraborty Says 'Agree With Jaya Bhachchan On Hyderabad Rape Case, But Not Lynching Bit'

Even as the outrage over the rape and murder of a 26-year-old veterinarian in Hyderabad grows, TMC MP Mimi Chakraborty said on Monday that she agreed with her colleague Jaya Bachchan, but not with the “lynching bit”. 

Speaking to CNNNews18 Chakraborty said, “Yes, I did agree with Jaya Bachchan. But I didn’t agree to the lynching bit, what I meant was to have more stringent laws for such perpetrators.”

The MP from Javapur told CNNNews18, “The law should be immediate and strict that even before thinking some like this, it should send shivers down the spines of the accused.” 

Speaking to the news channel Chakraborty further wondered why it was only women who had to think before boarding a bus at night or stepping out at night. 

Earlier on Monday, Chakraborty had told ANI,  “I request to all the concerned ministers that please make a law so strong that a person thinks a hundred times before let alone rape, but even before looking at a woman with ill intentions.” 

Several MPs including Jaya Bhachchan and P Wilson of the DMK demanded violent forms of punishment for the accused who have beeb arrested. 

The charred body of the 26-year-old woman was found under a bridge in Hyderabad on November 28. The police later found that the accused, identified as Mohammed Areef, Jollu Shiva, Jollu Naveen and Chintakunta Chennakeshavulu, plotted to lure her...
